Holiday Bucket List

December is almost here! With the holidays only a few days away, there’s no time to waste to indulge in some seasonal treats and participate in holiday-themed activities.

With so much to do (and so little time!) here is our holiday bucket list to make sure you’re able to check everything off that list before the new year.

Deck the Halls
Get in the holiday spirit by decorating your home, inside and out! Light up the neighborhood and hang lights outside your house or hang a festive wreath on your front door. Spruce up the inside of your home by adding some holiday décor inside as well – display Christmas cards (old and new), light some candles with classic holiday scents or put out seasonal throws and pillows to add to the holiday cheer. If you celebrate Christmas, don’t forget to put up the tree!

Watch Your Seasonal Favorites
December is the perfect time to rewatch those old holiday classics. Whether it be A Christmas Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, Elf or National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, dig into these nostalgic movies your family knows and loves. Want to add to the festivities? Take a trip to your local Target and buy matching holiday-themed pajamas for the whole family to wear while you watch.

Bake Cookies for the Holidays
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, baking is a hallmark of the holiday season you don’t want to miss out on. Bake some sugar cookies to decorate or peanut butter blossoms, short bread or Biscotti cookies for friends and family. You could also bake some gingerbread for a friendly gingerbread house decorating competition! Don’t forget to buy some extra sprinkles and frosting.

Go Look at Holiday Lights
Mid-December is prime time to go look at your neighborhood Christmas lights. Make some hot chocolate, bundle up and take a walk or hop in the car and explore other neighborhood’s festive decorations.

Host a Gift Exchange
Gather your friends and host a holiday gift exchange. A fun and inclusive way to celebrate each other, try organizing a white elephant so you don’t have to worry about expense or finding that perfect gift. Secret Santa also makes for a great gift exchange with personalized gifts. Or, try hosting an ornament exchange to help your friends and family decorate around the house!

Go Ice Skating
In Park City, there’s multiple spots open for ice skating in December. Take advantage of the cold weather and head down to the Resort Center Ice Skating Rink, an outdoor rink that features twinkling holiday lights, Christmas trees and holiday themed music.

Embrace the Season of Giving
Above all else, this time of year is the season of giving. Give back to your community by participating in the Santa Pub Crawl and Toy Drive, volunteering or donating to a local homeless shelter, or reach out to trails@parkcity.org to find out more about volunteer work for ecological restoration and trail maintenance in the surrounding area.
