How to Create a Morning Routine

March 17, 2023

Feeling overwhelmed lately? You’re not alone! It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of work and family, causing other important things like self-care to fall by the wayside. Often, the quality of our day is determined by the quality of our mornings.

To set yourself up for success, create a morning routine to help elevate your mood throughout the day and increase your productivity.

Give Yourself Some Time

The key to creating an effective morning routine is to give yourself enough time between waking up and doing whatever it is you have to do for the day. Whether it be going to work, school, dropping your kids off for school or volunteering, make sure you have some time to yourself before diving into your responsibilities for the day.

Limit Screen Time

Screen time is a major distraction from the rest of your day. Oftentimes we find ourselves scrolling through social media for longer than we’d like, taking away from other important tasks that may be difficult to complete if more time is spent watching TV or scrolling through Instagram. Take control of your mornings and limit your screen time.

Eat a Nutritious Breakfast

Breakfast is undoubtedly the most important meal of the day. Without enough energy in the tank, you’ll find yourself dragging throughout the rest of the day. If it’s tough to find the time to cook breakfast in the morning, try prepping something the night before – this way, breakfast will be ready right when you wake up and you won’t have to waste any time thinking about what to eat.

Top it off with a cup of coffee or water to stay hydrated and you’ll be ready to start your day off on the right foot.

Move Your Body

Introducing movement into your morning routine can raise endorphins and boost your mood. If you have a little extra time, squeeze your workout in first thing in the morning. With your workout out of the way, you won’t have to worry about making it to the gym after work.

If you don’t have the time to make it to the gym, try incorporating a stretching routine, yoga or go for a small walk. Whatever you prefer, try adding in some morning movement and you might find yourself feeling more productive throughout the day.

Make a Plan & Start Small

If you’re worried you won’t be able to accomplish everything you want to, make a list of the more manageable morning habits and work your way up from there.

Or, start small and incorporate one healthy habit into your morning routine – whether it’s time to yourself, making breakfast, exercising or making a list of to-dos for the day, establishing even just one more healthy habit in your daily routine will set you up for success.
