Independence Day Extravaganza: Park City 4th of July
June 28, 2024
Are you ready for an Independence Day extravaganza? If so, then Park City is the place. Utah’s ski resort town is perfect for summer activities, and pulls out all the stops for the Fourth of July. The vibe here is undeniably fun, welcoming, and patriotic the entire day (and night, of course) as thousands of locals and visitors gather. Indeed, there’s a whole lot to do — here are some of our favorite ways to celebrate the Fourth in Park City. Happy celebrating!
Morning: Fourth of July Parade
No Independence Day celebration is complete without a parade. And Park City’s annual Fourth of July parade is a memorable one. Weaving through historic Old Town, the parade showcases marching bands, pageant queens, and countless community groups — along with classic cars and lively floats, among many others. Watching all the red, white, and blue, against the backdrop of beautiful old buildings and lush green mountains, feeling patriotic is practically a guarantee.
For parking, there’s China Bridge garage near Main Street, which costs money in the morning. Or you can park for free at nearby Park City Mountain, Deer Valley Resort, the Park City School District campus on Kearns Boulevard, or in Richardson Flat, and use the city’s free bus service to the Old Town Transit Center.
Afternoon: City Park and Mountain Village
After the parade, walk to City Park (1400 Sullivan Rd.) for continued Independence Day festivities. Every Fourth, this community space becomes a central hub with food trucks, live music, kid’s games, and more. You can also head to Park City Mountain Resort (1415 Lowell Ave.) for similar activities, usually later in the afternoon.
Evening: Rodeo Time
The nearby city of Oakley hosts a legendary annual rodeo. This is a high-demand event: Tickets go on sale during winter and sell out long before summer arrives. If you absolutely love a bucking bronco, make sure to plan early.
Night: Park City Fireworks
“And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air” — you know the rest. Finish your Fourth the way it was meant to be finished, with a brightened night sky. Park City Mountain Resort helms the spectacle each year, with a fireworks show that truly goes all out. (On especially dry years when fireworks aren’t allowed, the city has opted for a light-up drones show instead — still pretty cool!)
Bedtime: Shoreline Homes
Once all that Fourth of July fun is done, you deserve to rest easy. Shoreline homes are located on the shores of nearby Jordanelle reservoir, giving every home a beautiful view of the mountains and lake. Being so close to Park City festivities makes for a great Independence Day — and every day.
