Stick to Your Goals in the New Year
January 20, 2023
It’s that time of year again! We’re all making those New Year’s goals – whether you want to get back in the gym, eat healthier, be more environmentally conscious or to simply try new things, we’ve got some tips to help you stay on track in the new year.
Be Specific About your Goal
Make your resolution as detailed as possible! Your goal should be something you can realistically accomplish (and track your progress with). Whether you want to be able to run a mile in under 12 minutes, go to a new national park every month or reduce your carbon footprint, your goal should be something specific and measurable.
Make a Plan
Now that you have your goal, it’s time to create a roadmap that will help you achieve your resolution. Try creating smaller goals that will eventually help you achieve your overall goal. This might be saving $100 every month to help fund your travel expenses or going to the gym for at least 30 minutes, 5 days a week. From there, you can start to build momentum towards achieving your new year’s resolution.
Start Small
Rather than focusing on the daunting task of completing your resolution, focus on the present moment and how you can work towards this goal. It’s easy to become overwhelmed, however your productivity is bound to go up when you start small and focus on one task at a time.
Remember: Change Takes Time!
Change won’t happen overnight. Achieving your goals requires patience, motivation and consistently showing up for yourself or others. If you really want to see a difference, put effort into planning and make a commitment to yourself. Without the drive to succeed, your resolution will likely be put on the backburner for next year.
Don’t Forget Why You Started
Finally, it’s important to remember why you made your resolution in the first place. You might be tempted to give up as the year goes on, but if you keep in mind why it was important to you at the start of the year, you’ll be more inclined to stick with it. Try writing down what motivates you or putting little reminders in your phone or planner. It might take a while to achieve your goal, so just remember real change takes time, but with the right attitude and proper goal-setting, you’ll be able to achieve just about anything.
